PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical Education at Atherton House School is taught by a specialist Physical Education teacher. The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment in a safe controlled environment. Learning to play by the rules, team spirit and sportsmanship are all key elements of the lesson.

Classes from Reception to Year 6 have Physical Education twice a week. Nursery 1 and Nursery 2 have Physical Education once a week plus a lesson of music and movement. Years 2 to 6 also have swimming once a week. P.E. lessons take place in the hall or the playground where the aim is to improve body movement and balance. Co-ordination and ball skills are taught through a wide variety of activities including football, netball, volleyball, hockey, gymnastics, tennis, cricket and rounders. The older children play friendly matches against other schools and everyone is encouraged to be part of a team.
